Thailand's political and commercial capital is Bangkok, a vibrant, sprawling city of 10 million people, famous worldwide, as much for its Buddhist temples as for its nightlife.
Thailand embraces a rich diversity of cultures and traditions. With its proud history, tropical climate and renowned hospitality, the Kingdom is a never-ending source of fascination and pleasure for international visitors.
Thai language is not easily learned by visitors but English is widely understood in Bangkok, the city being the commercial capital, and in other tourist centers. English, along with other European languages is spoken in most hotels, shops and restaurants in the main tourist destinations.
Thailand is known for its tropical climate, the year divided into three seasons. March to May is the hot season whereas June to October is the rainy season, with days of brilliant sunshine. November to February are the cooler months which also see a significant drop in humidity.
The electric supply in Thailand is 220 volt AC (50 cycles). Travellers traveling with appliances are advised to carry a plug adapter kit. Four Star/ five star hotels will make available 220 to 110 volt transformers.
