Buying A Condo In Thailand

Although a foreigner is not allowed to own land or a house in Thailand, It is now possible for him to buy a condo. Over the years, the Government has relaxed the rules and it has now become a relatively easier exercise.

The following laws cover the purchase of a condominium unit in Thailand by an alien:

1. The Condominium Act B.E. 2522 (or 1979)
2. The Condominium Act (No. 2), B.E. 2534 (or 1991)
3. The Condominium Act (N. 3) B.E. 2542 (or 1999) issued on 28th April, 1999.

It is strongly advised that a competent attorney be appointed to handle the legal requirements and also to ensure safety in the contract drawn up with the seller.
