With over twenty beaches surrounding the island shoreline, each one with its own distinct charecterisitcs, you are sure to find the one that suits you. White sands, water sports, secluded coves, quiet beaches for family fun, a vibrant night life, whatever your mood, Phuket beaches have all of it. Here are a few of the beaches:

Karon Beach

Karon beach is one of the largest beaches on Phuket. It is about 20 KM from Phuket town and there is a regular daytime bus service to and from Phuket Town. The beach has lovely white sand and has been kept clear of any construction on it. The resorts line Patak Road West, which hugs the beach. The southern point has a fine coral reef stretching toward Kata and the Bu Island.

Karon is Phuket's most upscale beach and has several restaurants, bars, shops, travel agencies and other businesses near the traffic circle at the North end as also on the road that connecs Patak Road West to Patak Road East. The narrow road connecting Kata and Karon also has a small businesses. The Dino Park Mini Golf is also located on this road. Karon is the most up-scale of Phuket's beaches.

Patong Beach

Patong beach is Phuket's most developed beach. Located about 15 KM from Phuket town, it offers numerous leisure and recreational activities along its 3-km long cresent bay. Whether you want Windsurfing, snorkelling, sailing, swimming or just plain sunbathing, Patong has it all for you. It is famous for its seafood and there is shopping for local souvenirs, inexpensive clothes and imitation watches. There is also a vibrant night scene with good restautrants and discos.

Kata Beach

More family oriented, Kata beach is located about 20 KM from Phuket town. A very scenic beach, Kata is very peaceful and retains more of a village feel at its two ends. its clear waters offer a lovely view, flanked by hills, with Bu island sitting offshore.picturesque Bu island sits offshore.

Kata Noi Beach

The narow beach road from Kata, up over the hill, will bring you to Kata Noi beach. A smaller beach, Kata Noi has seen very little developement except for a few hotels. The beach itself is beautiful and if you go to the beachless shoreline stretching south, you get to see a lot of fish that inhabit the rocks and corals there.

Kalim Beach

Kalim beach is located north of Patong Bay. It consists of rocky but quiet beaches. It starts around the Novotel Resort Hotel Patong and stretches to the Thavorn Bay Resort. If you take the road going up into the hills, you will come across some high viewpoints. There are also some good restaurants with nice views and the area is moving upmarket with Some housing compounds coming up on the hillside.
