Kaeng Krachan, Thailand's largest national park, is almost half the area of Petburi Province, covering about 3000 sq km.
The park's rain forest is very thick in many places due to the very heavy monsoon rains that the area receives. It also has Savannah type of plains, mountains caves and waterfalls. The park is home to many species of animals, including wild elephants, tigers, bears, deer and gibbons.
The park provides ideal surroundings for camping and hiking. There are also two rivers within the park that are suitable for river rafting."Floatel" accommodation is also offered by a resort at the La-U Reservoir.
The entrance to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, meaning "300 mountain peaks", is about 50 km south of Hua Hin.
Savannah-like plains and steep limestone cliffs at the seashore provides some great vistas. Several caves in the park are also worth a visit.
The park provides a rich experience of nature with good animal watching as it is home to several rare species. If you are lucky, you may even spot an Irrawady Dolphin passing by from the coast or from a boat.
Pa La-U Waterfall is about 70 km from Hua Hin by road. While the last stretch of the journey is a dirt-road requiring some driving skill, an excursion to Pa La-U can be a very rewading experience for visitors to Hua Hin and Cha-am. Depending on the season swarms of butterflies can be seen in the area. Many local tour operators offer trips to the waterfall.
