Hua Hin

Still an active fishing village, Hua Hin has been transformed into a major holiday destination with the construction of several five-star and four-star resort hotels. Located 200 KM south of Bangkok, Hua Hin can be reached by car in under three hours. Regular coach services and trains are also available.

The resort was discovered in the early 1920s by King Rama VII as an ideal getaway from the sultry metropolis of Bangkok. The tranquil fishing village was turned into the Royal resort and consequently became popular among Siam's nobility and upper-class.

The construction of a railway line from Bangkok in 1924 ensured easy accessibility and popularity with a wide section of the the Thai public. The State Railways also built the Railway Hotel in the old Siam architectural style. THis hotel is today's Sofitel Central Hua Hin.

However, it was the royal endorsement which has given Hua Hin a special character of its very own. In 1928, King Rama VII built his Klai Kangwon (Far From Worries) Palace which remains until this day the official royal residence. It is still frequently used by members of the royal family and is open to the public for visits.

Many of Thailand's rich and famous built their own beachfront summer homes along the curving sandy bay, enjoying leisurely family weekends in a resort which has maintained its unique identity.

Hua Hin has continued to develop at its own pace and has emerged as a premier family resort town, catering to both, foreign tourists and Thais.

The five mile long beach of Hua Hin provides the highest density of world class golf courses anywhere in Thailand while it is still to be discovered as an international Golf destination. While course maintenance and services are superb, the green-fees and other costs are currently among the lowest in the world.
