How To Get There

By Air

Chiang Mai is 90 minutes away by air from Bangkok and well connected with several airlines servicing the route with over 30 flights daily. The new budget airlines have brought the fares down, with a three week advance purchase online going down all the ay to 1,000 Baht one-way. There are also flights to and from Phuket, Chiang Rai, Samui, Suko Thai, Trat, etc. The airlines flying to Chiang Mai include THai Air, Bangkok Air, Air Asia and Orient Thai.

By Train

Trains for Chiang Mai leave from the Hua Lampong Station in Bangkok at 6.55am, 8.30am, 4.00pm, 4.45pm, 5.50pm, 8.30pm and 9.00pm. The train covers the 800 KM journey in about 11 hours and we recommend the overnight train. The best option for this is the train leaving at 5.50pm. Second Class bunk is 741 Baht. Full food service is available on board. Air conditioned coaches are also available on certain trains.

By Bus

Buses for Chiang Mai leave from Mo Chit in Bangkok from 5.30am till 10.00pm. The journey takes about 10 hours and there are buses at regular intervals throughout the day. Both, the Government and private operators offer bus services and the VIP buses are recommended (fare 400 to 600 Baht). You can contact the travel desk at your hotel to do the bookings.
