| Sukhumwit / New Phetburi
How many people know that if you start on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok and keep going East, you will reach Cambodia. One of the longest road in the Kingdom, sukhumvit is known the world over as a tourist hotspot. The section of the road between Soi Nana (Soi 3) and Asok (Soi 21), with its numerous street vendors, shops, bars, restaurants and beauty salons, is always filled with tourists. The activities spread deep into the Sois and one sees countless Westerners in this area, tourists as well as the vast number of expatriates that live in Bangkok.
At night, many of the street vendors make way for the fllod stalls and mini-bars that spring up along the street. Tables and chairs are laid out and these go ontill the early hours of the morning.
To the West, Sukhumvit merges into Phetburi Road, quiet during the day, vibrant with people out to have a good time at the numerous entertainment places with their neons and bright lights that dot the street.
And ofcourse it's popularity with tourists has spawned dozens of hotels in this area, from 3-star to 5-star.
The Skytrain runs along Sukhumvit/Phetburi Roads and the stations are Asoke, Nana and Chit Lom. The MRT Subway also has a stop, Sukumvit, at the junction of Sukhumvit with Asok (Soi 21).
Going off the track a bit, Royal City Avenue (RCA), a 2.5 km street between Rama IX Road and New Phetburi Road, is a leading entertainment center and its numerous discos, and pubs attract teenagers and pop stars alike.
