Bangkok offers the visitors an abundance of sightseeing opportunities. The first thing to do is to get yourself a good city map as this will help you orient yourself and plan your sojourn into the City of Angels.
Most hotels have travel desks that are linked with tour operators that offer several city tours. For short time visitors this is probably the best way to see the city. They offer the option of seat-on-a-coach or personal car with a chauffeur who also doubles as a guide. The latter is of course the more comfortable way and also allows you to tailor your itinerary. However, if shopping is on your agenda, be careful as the chauffeur will most likely have his own "recommended" shops, which have inflated prices to cover the hefty commission they pay out to the chauffeurs and taxi drivers.
And ofcourse if you have the time, there is nothing like exploring the city on your own, using the excellent BTS skytrains and MRT subways facilities that the city offers. Taxis are available easily for those places that are off the skytrain / subway routes. You mmay ask the concierge of your hotel to write down the name is Thai for the taxi driver. And remember to carry a visiting card of the hotel written in Thai to find your way back. A good guide in this case would be an asset. Lonely Planet and Fodor cover Bangkok quite well.
Very few cities offer the visitor what Bangkok offers in terms of variety and quantity. Sightseeing in Bangkok can be a long time occupation, given the sheer variety and quantum of things to do. Listed below are the main attractions:
